Looking at those HYOOGE bass cabs and how many guys use ampeg heads and cabs, I would've thought that Ampeg was the standard in cabs(never seen any other 8x10/12s cabs except for ampegs). I always thought Ampeg was supposed to be awesome at making amp cabs. (unless you are talking about prices under $20)Ĭlick to expand.oh wow, that actually blew my mind. If you don't know, then there is a good chance that it might not be that much of a bargain. Don't get caught up in something because you think it might be a cheap price for something. When it comes to deals, you really need to know a rough idea of what something is worth before you go look at it. You might be better off asking in the modelers forum what other people use for theirs, as I don't have experience in what to look for with a modeler. More country/jazz/blues you might lean more towards an open back cab with American voiced speakers. For instance, if you want to play more rock or aggressive type of music, you should lean more towards closed back, british voiced cab's. If you are looking for good tone for any setup, figure on what type of tone you are looking for. I also got a SoundCity cab for $50 from the same guy, that wasn't a deal.

I picked up a 1978 Marshall 4x12 for $50 on Craigslist a while back. It's not a matter of cost, but a matter of tonality. Around here is difficult to even give those cab's away. Ampeg isn't known for making stellar guitar cabs. If you are looking for something that made your financial worth go up, then it probably isn't. If you are looking for a cheap addition to your arsenal, then the Teisco is probably a good thing. how do i know what to look for?Ī good deal depends on what you are looking for. What do i need to look for in a good speaker cab? especially in the case of modelers, all i know is that the choice of wood, open vs closed, choice of speakers all play a part in coloring the sound which may or may not negate the modeling altogether. now should i assume despite all the reputation that precedes this cab that it should suck based on the fact that its only $250? thats sort of the approach i thought i would take with the Teisco cab, that yeah it may be cheap, but that just might be God smiling on me and giving me a great deal. I thought I just scored a great deal, i mean i was gonna almost gonna get an Ampeg cab with Celestion V30s wired in stereo for $250, which I'm guessing makes up a great amp on the basis of reputation alone as far as i know(V30s are great, Ampeg is reputable, most don't come or would be charged extra to be wired in stereo) but the deal sort of went sour. the thing is i really need a primer on this stuff because i wouldn't even know where to start and so i wouldn't know if its something i should or shouldnt dump money into. Therefore, proceed at your own risk.Ĭlick to eat advice SA. Furthermore, no security is promised or implied by The Gear Page owners, administrators, or moderators.
